It's a pretty emotional time at the moment as we return to London tomorrow. We are currently in Hong Kong after 6 very muddy days in Guilin and Yangshuo, China. I haven't had a chance to develop/download the pictures yet (more on this later) so instead I'll concentrate my efforts on reflecting upon the past 8 months.
I've seen the most impressive, most unimpressive, most spectacular, most sublime and most haunting beauty over the past travels and it's a period of my life that will remain with me forever more. Having shot tens of thousands of frames, I can only hope that I have managed to capture a tiny fraction of what my senses have been privileged enough to witness.
Over a stiff drink last night we worked out that we have taken 32 commercial flights, 10 private helicopter charters and 15 car rentals during this journey. It's truly amazing what you can achieve if you really put your heart and soul into something.
However, all good things come to an end and its time to go home for a while. Although mundane things beckon (say hello to tax returns), I must confess that a break may be worthwhile. Also, my laptop completely died last night (hence the lack of downloads), all of memory cards are full, my boots and waterproof clothing are full of mud and my favourite camera lens took a, um, 'fall' over the weekend. I really think that someone is trying to tell me something here...
Over the coming months I will endeavour to share some of the unprocessed shots with you all. In addition, there are still some places to cover before the book is finalised (e.g. Norway, French Alps etc.) so it will be interesting to see how these turn out. Finally, there is a gallery and a book launch planned (fingers crossed) so there is plenty to keep us all occupied until the end of 2008 at least.
I just wanted to thank you all for sharing this wondrous journey with us. Even though it is not quite finished yet, I am reminded of wise words by some old crooner:
"And now, as tears subside, I find it all so amusing...
To think, I did all that, and may I say, not in a shy way
Oh no, oh no not me, I did it my way"
Well said, Frankie :-) Further posts and many pics to come....
Many, many thanks to the support of so many
